About THE PROJECT

Children's Rights in Society, BRIS, is a national organization in Sweden aiming to aid children and youth under the age of 18. The children can send messages to or chat with adults working at BRIS 24/7, or call a hotline about issues such as domestic violence and a recent heartbreak.

In addition to redesigning the main website we also needed to redesign the user pages, hence the goal: To design new user pages.

Challenges:
  • Kids and youth needed to log in or create an account to chat and message BRIS due to legal and GDPR-reasons.
  • To design and convey the log in and account creation flows in a non-disruptive way.
  • To separate the logged in features (Chat and messages) from the other contact flows, Phone and text message(SMS).

As the users needed to be as anonymous as possible due to the sensitive nature of the issues discussed in chats and messages, certain technical limitations were imposed on the project. As with the main website, we worked in close collaboration with the developers in order to understand these limitations and design accordingly. Whenever the technical limitations impacted the project, we conducted workshops to present alternative designs to the stakeholders and the developers in order to find the best direction going forward. In the image below, we can see one concept being evaluated from a UX, technical, organizational and economical perspective.

Workshop featuring different concepts

Once a high fidelity prototype, it was tested with children and youth to find issues and user problems.

High fidelity prototype
Key takeaways:
  • Close collaboration with stakeholders and developers is key in order to find feasible solutions from a ux, technical, organizational and economic perspective.
  • Fast and efficient workshops with clear goals and activities is very important to utilize all participant's expertise.
